July 10, 2009, Newsletter Issue #197: How To Spot Fake Designer Sunglasses

Tip of the Week

Sunglasses are easy to counterfeit, as consumers are attracted by the promise of designer glasses at discount prices. However, buying fake designer sunglasses have a higher risk than just sporting lesser quality. Fake sunglasses may not provide any protection at all against ultra-violet rays, leaving the wearer at risk to eye damage. Watch out for "designer" sunglasses sold unpackaged, or in flimsy unmarked plastic
sleeves. Test the hinges. They will be inferior in fake versions. A dead giveaway is when the "designer" logo can be simply scratched off the frame!
